The NHS Demonstrations Initiative
The NHS Demonstrations Initiative showcasing innovative practices, technologies, programs, policies and strategies. These will help improve the performance, viability and effectiveness of affordable housing projects.
National Housing Co-Investment Fund (NHCIF): Housing Repair and Renewal Stream
The NHCIF is an initiative of Canada’s National Housing Strategy, with the aim to build new housing and renew existing supply. Funding through this stream can be a low-interest loan, a capital contribution or a combination of both. Available funding includes $3.46 billion available through low-cost repayable loans over 10 years, and $2.26 billion available through capital contributions over 10 years.

Multicultural Community Capacity Grant Program
Non-profit housing providers offering programs or services that focus on newcomers and ethno-cultural groups could be eligible for up to $8,000 from the Province of Ontario. Organizations can apply for funding for one project, which must address at least one of the following priorities:
- Civic engagement
- Social connections
- Education and empowerment
- Women’s empowerment
- Capacity building and partnerships

Save on Energy Retrofit incentives reduce project and operational costs for equipment upgrades – and open the door to new possibilities for your business. Whether it’s a lighting upgrade, motor and heating installations or new control systems, incorporating energy efficiency into your operations delivers benefits that reach far beyond your energy bill.
Social housing providers are eligible for special incentives including
Advance 50% of eligible financial incentive funding before project starts and after project approval by your local hydro company.
- Gap grant funding: Double the participant incentive capped at 50% of the project cost.

Affordable Housing Conservation Program
Union Gas's Affordable Housing Conservation Program helps housing providers fund improvements to increase energy efficiency and resident comfort on their properties, helping to repay capital outlay with rebates and ongoing savings. As part of the program, Union Gas will cover up to 50% of the total cost of the improvements.
Eligibility criteria: Must be a Union Gas customer and a low-income or affordable housing provider (municipal, non-profit or co-op). Program applies to multi-family buildings greater than 3 stories, with natural gas heating and/or natural gas make up air. Further eligibility information is available at the link below.
Home Depot Canada Foundation | Orange Door Project Grants
Provides funding to Canadian registered charities making repairs, refurbishments and/or modifications to a housing accommodation or other support facility that benefits homeless youth. Maximum grant: $50,000.

The objective of the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is to provide consumer centered support and funding to Ontario residents who have long-term physical disabilities and to provide access to personalized assistive devices appropriate for the individual’s basic needs.

March of Dimes Canada - The Home and Vehicle Modification Program
March of Dimes Canada's Home & Vehicle Modification Program provides funding for basic home and/or vehicle modifications. The program is intended to assist permanent Ontario residents with a substantial impairment expected to last one year or more, with their disability management.
