Who we are

Founded in 1988, the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) is an independent association funded and directed by its members.

We believe that secure, decent, and affordable housing is a human right and a fundamental social determinant of health. It has the power to change lives and is the foundation of vibrant and successful communities.

Our vision

Everyone has a home where they can fully participate in their community.

Our goal

Build at least 99,000 new non-profit homes that are needed immediately, including at least 30,000 supportive homes.

What we do

As advocates, we raise awareness of the critical role that affordable rental housing plays in Ontario. We build capacity by educating our members and offering training and resources to develop their skills and support their tenants. Bringing members together, we celebrate their diversity and the incredible work they do every day.

Our members

Our membership includes non-profit housing providers who offer affordable homes to low- and moderate-income households, along with specialized housing and support services such as supportive, seniors, and Indigenous housing. ONPHA members cover the full spectrum of housing corporations, including Ontario’s largest public, private and independent organizations.

Our Board

The Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association Board of Directors represent the interests of our members. They share their in-depth sector knowledge and expertise to help strengthen the association and advocate for a vital community housing sector.

The Board of Directors governs in accordance with our strategic plan, by-laws, and provincial and federal legislation. Directors are elected by ONPHA’s housing members and serve two-year terms.

Strategic Plan: Building Bridges

Our 2024-2027 Strategic Plan is our three-year strategy for how we will empower and support ONPHA members through changing times and transition into the new world of affordable housing.

2024 Annual Report: Building Bridges

In our 2024 Annual Report, we reflect on the completion of our three-year strategy, Opening Doors Through Housing, which achieved significant legislative changes and set the stage for continued progress. Now, with our new strategy, Building Bridges: A Collaborative Vision for Housing, we are tackling the sector’s greatest challenges by driving advocacy and fostering strong partnerships.
